BAZ Trio

BAZ Trio was born in Tunisia, in 2018, from the meeting of French bassist Basile Rahola and Tunisian pianist Wajdi Riahi. After playing several concerts, the two decided to continue playing together, and Basile brought in his longtime friend and collaborator, French drummer

Oscar Georges. Basile started writing new material for the trio, and the three began exploring their unique sound and interpretations of Basile’s compositions.

Nuanced, subtle and sincere, born of the great complicity that unites young musicians, Baz Trio’s music is spontaneous, takes its time and according a great importance to silence and acoustics.

The sound of the trio is the result of the aesthetics of the compositions of doublebass player Basile Rahola and the very personal interpretation of pianist Wajdi Riahi and drummer Oscar Georges.

The diversity of the interpreters is a force where the inspiration of each member enriches the performance.

This trio was noticed for its cohesion which gives birth to an eclectic, original and melodic music. They won the first prize at the Mechelen International Jazz Contest 2018
in Belgium for “Best Group” and were finalists at the Zilina international Jazz Contest
in Slovakia.

L’Homme Bleu, or The Blue Man, is Baz Trio’s first studio album. The album centers on Basile Rahola’s compositions, which were written as reflections on significant moments in his life. The title of the album refers to the Tuareg people, the so-called Blue Folk
of the Sahara.

Baz Trio is inspired, at least conceptually, by the notion of The Blue man enjoying seemingly-limitless freedom in his vast, hushed, ever evolving domain.
